Governor visits Chandel, stresses vaccination of all

In one of his first major public appearances after taking charge, Governor La Ganesan made his maiden visit to the district on Monday.
In connection with the visit the district administration hosted an interaction programme with the district level officers and members of civil society organisations in the presence of ADC Chandel caretaker chairman P RingoLamkang, secretary to the Governor Bobby Waikhom, OSD to Governor, ADC to Governor, Chandel deputy commissioner, village chiefs, etc.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor emphasised on Arogaya - the overall wellbeing, health of mind, body and spirit and urged the public to live life healthily.
Reflecting on the significance of Navratri and Durga Puja, he explained that those who have strength and integrity are respected even by God and Goddess.
While pointing out Manipur's reputation as the powerhouse of sports in India and achievement in the field of art and culture are very much related to health and mental well-being of the people, the Governor cited an anecdote from the Hindu mythology about building a temple to drive home his point about importance of having a clear concept.
He also congratulated the district administration and the deputy commissioner for providing clean toilets to all the girls' schools throughout the district and also for achieving the goal of 100 percent open defecation free.
He further said that his main concern is the rate, of vaccination in the district which is only 50 per cent and advised the district administration to try to achieve 100 per cent or at least 90 per cent administration of both doses.
While reminding that the government cannot stop the pandemic but it can give the vaccines to protect from it, La Ganesan explained that the government even resorting to use of drones to deliver vaccines underscores the firm resolve to go everything necessary to as to defeat the pandemic.
While delivering the welcome address, deputy commissioner Mayanglambam Rajkumar presented a detail PPT report and the developmental works being taken up in the district.
In his report, the DC said that according to 2011 census the district has a total population of 85,000 and 224 census villages divided into 3 sub-divisions.
He further said that it is the only aspirational district in the state but highlighted that challenges being faced by the district administration include bad connectivity due to terrible road conditions and communication problems namely 'shadow areas', lack of district officials, manpower, medical staff and health facilities, etc.
He also highlighted on the steps being taken up for addressing these problems.
As part of the programme, the Governor also honoured the families of the two Kargil war martyrs namely Chara Nicholas Moyon of Hegrutampak village and Ng Beningvir Moyon of Kupthar, both from the Naga Regiment.
