Nupi Marup rally decries crime against women

As part of the nationwide protest spearheaded by National Federation of Indian Women against the rising crime against women in the country, All Manipur Nupi Marup took out a rally denouncing atrocities committed against women in the state.
The rally on Tuesday started from Irabot Bhawan, BT Road and culminated at the same venue after covering Kanglapat and BT flyover.
A protest meet was later held at Irabot Bhawan wherein All Manipur Nupi Marup secretary L Sumatibala expressed serious concern that crime against women has been increasing day by day in Manipur while majority of those involved in such crimes remain scot-free due to failure of registering cases in time.
Prosecution of criminals involved in crime against women is very low in the state while authorities concerned are unable to file charge sheet in time due to lack of necessary evidence, she said and maintained that crime against women could be stopped only when all necessary requirements are fulfilled.
She also stressed the need for collective efforts particularly among women activists and organisations in stopping crime against women in the state.
The protest rally was also participated by All Manipur Nupi Marup president Th Sakhi Devi, former president S Sorojini and other leaders of various women's organisations.
Later, a memorandum addressed to President of India was submitted through the Governor.
The memorandum said that women of Manipur are suffering due to different forms of crimes committed against them while cases of rape and murder are increasing unabated.
It pointed out that a total of 125 crimes against women were registered at Imphal West women police station during the COVID-19 pandemic spanning from 2020 to 2022 but charge sheets for only 42 cases were filed.
It then urged the President to take necessary action to stop crime against women in the state and the country.
