Imphal, September 30 2022:
Commemorating the 126th birth anniversary of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot, several organisations observed Irabot day by conducting different programmes including social service, tree plantation and others on Friday.
In a release, All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) informed that the organisation observed the birth anniversary of Irabot at its office by lighting candles as a concluding part of the month-long observance.
It said that AMUCO along with like-minded organisations has been observing month-long Irabot day in various parts of Manipur.
Several activities including social service, tree plantation, free medical camp, anti-rabies vaccination programme, cultural events, recitation competition, plastic free zone awareness programme, debating competition, distribution of fingerlings and poetry recitation were carried out as part of the observance.
Pointing out that people have a huge responsibility towards ensuring development and protection of freedom of the land, AMUCO cautioned that people will become depended on others once they fail to take such responsibilities.
Bequeathing a dependent society to the next generation should not be done by the present generation, AMUCO maintained, while urging to make the observance of Irabot Day meaningful.
The only weapon against divisive politics and to become an independent society is by joining hands and fighting together for overall development and progress, the AMUCO statement added.
Similarly, Jana Neta Hijam Irabot Birthday Celebration Committee observed Irabot day at Manipur Dramatic Union hall, Yaiskul Police Lane.
The observance was attended by MLA Thokchom Lokeshwor, MLA Surajkumar Okram, All Manipur Bar Association president Puyam Tomcha Meetei and Committee president Sarat Salam as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Lokeshwor highlighted the need to discuss and critically analyse the life and works of Lamyanba Irabot for a whole year instead of organising month long observance so as to ensure development of the state.
He assured of extending all possible help in the initiative and further appealed to the people, especially the youth, of all the communities for living harmoniously with one another.
Meanwhile, Socialist Students' Union of Manipur (SSUM) and AMPSUM (LINTPK) jointly observed Irabot day at THAU ground, Thangmeiband.
The event was attended by Manipur Human Rights Commission former acting chairperson Khaidem Mani as chief guest and SSUM president Soraijam Yaima Meetei as president while Manipur Recognised Private Schools' Welfare Association advisor Namoijam Tomba and All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMJWU) president Wangkhemcha Shamjai were present as guests of honour.
Student contingents of various schools took part in a march-past parade and paid homage to the photo of Irabot.
