World Deaf Day observed

National Health Mission, Manipur and Directorate of Health Services, Manipur observed World Deaf Day at Indian Medical Association (IMA) Hall, Lamphelpat today.
The observation was held under the theme 'with sign language, everyone is included' .
Speaking as chief guest at the event, N Kalpana stressed the importance of sign language in communication.
"Sign language not only help the mute and deaf but all," she said and urged near ones of the persons who are deaf to learn sign language for better communication.
"Families of deaf persons should learn sign language to take better care of them," she said.
SNO, National Programme for Prevention and Control of Deafness Dr T Manihar said that 466 million people worldwide suffer from deafness.
This figure will reach 630 miilion in the year 2030, he said.
Deputy Director (Finance) National Health Mission Manipur MC Liklainu and ex-Sr ENT specialist Dr MA Satar attended the event as guest of honour and president respectively.
