Imphal, September 26 2021:
Agitated public on Sunday stormed Wangoi CHC and created a ruckus over the death of a woman after child-birth.
The deceased woman has been identified as Maibam (o) Monika Devi (23), wife of Maibam Suresh of Iram Siphai Leirak Achouba.
Family members said that Monika was being treated at Wangoi CHC during her pregnancy and on Saturday, she was brought to the CHC after she started experiencing labor pains.
Later, she delivered a baby girl through normal delivery around 8:30 pm.
During the delivery, the doctor on duty at the Centre was not present and the baby was delivered by nurses.
Suddenly, around midnight they were told that her condition was deteriorating and was referred to a hospital.
After getting the referral, they took her to RIMS Imphal, but the doctors there declared her brought dead, the bereaved family members said.
Public, who were angry over keeping the woman at the CHC for prolonged period and her family members not being told about her worsening condition along with absence of the doctor during her delivery, took the body back to the CHC.
They stormed the CHC on Sunday morning and created a ruckus which was later subdued by police.
Meanwhile, the body has been kept at the CHC and family members are refusing to take it until authority concerned takes action against the irresponsible doctor and staff of the CHC.
