Imphal, September 25 2021:
People's Liberation Army (PLA), the armed wing of the proscribed Revolutionary People's Front (RPF), reportedly celebrated its 43nd Raising Day at its General Headquarters, Tactical Command, Strategic Command, 252 Mobile Battalion and other units, Department including central Bureau SR-1, Sr-2, Sr-3, SR-4 etc, on Saturday.
According to a statement released by RPF deputy secretary (publicity) Roben Khuman, red stars and festoons symbolising PLA were placed at various places falling under Division 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 of the party's central Bureau.
Tributes were paid to the party flag and to those who laid down their lives for Manipur.
The event was toned down for this year in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Speaking at the solemn function, RPF president Irengbam Chaoren noted that the people are well aware of the various impacts brought on by the pandemic, including impact on education, trade, tourism, etc.
Despite the efforts of those in governance, the pandemic continues to rage across the globe on as there is no definite cure.
Powerful countries like the US and those in Europe have suffered tremendously.
"Manipur too has suffered immensely due to the pandemic.
The situation has been further worsened due to the misconception that liberty is far more important than observing the basic rules and protocols to stay protected from the virus.
Thus, the people need to make concerted effort of observing the SOP and getting vaccinated to help eliminate the virus and save the land.
"However, there are some unscrupulous people who have been spreading misinformation about the pandemic, while there are political parties that are using the pandemic to garner votes.
Such acts must be stopped immediately.
Taking into context of US politics, its current President Joe Biden made public speeches stating that over 4 lakh US citizens died due to Covid-19 during former president Donald Trump.
However, over 2 lakh people died due to Covid after Joe Biden became president in January this year.
"Instead of wasting time trying to find a scapegoat to carry the black pot ie, pandemic, concerted efforts should be made to face the difficulties together.
For a small state like Manipur, it is even more important to support and coordinate with one another and rectify any shortcomings for better defence against the pandemic", he contended.
The RPF president then prayed for the unity of the indigenous communities of the Manipur so as to help the land successfully stand at the forefront of development.
He then shared the grief of all those who have been affected by the pandemic, while extending his appreciation to all those who played their roles in combating the pandemic.
