Reserve 33 pc seats for women: AMDWA

All Manipur Democratic Women's Association (AMDWA) has demanded reservation of 33 per cent seats for women in the parliament as well as in all state assemblies.
AMDWA celebrated its 27th Foundation Day at the community hall of Uyumpok Maning Leikai, Imphal East on Saturday.
Highlighting the important roles played by women in society, Association president Chanabam Sundari said that God provided a mother in each household and the women's role in their families had given birth to the society that we are now part of.
She then said that AMDWA was formed to improve the lives of women and bring about an equal society, while adding that women are capable of making their own decisions and as such, should have a place in all aspects.
Stating that a petition with over 30,000 signatures has been submitted to President Droupadi Murmu and PM Narendra Modi, against rising prices of fuel and other essential goods as well as crimes against women and children; Sundari remarked that the cash for votes during the polls is the reason why the wrongs in the society and the government is difficult to rectify.
As such, sincere and honest people who care about the people and state get discouraged.
Thus, there is a need for setting up good organisations which can work from the grassroots levels, she asserted.
Therefore, to ensure equal treatment of women, she demanded the central government to ensure its proposal for 33 per cent seat reservation for women in the parliament and in the assemblies of all states is enacted into an Act and also see to its implementation.
The celebration was also attended by Uyumpok GP pradhan Thangjam Ingobi, member Thoidingjam Memcha, UDC president Kokngangbi and Uyumpok Village senior citizen Ningthoujam Tomba as presidium members.
