Awareness prog on mega handloom cluster held

Imphal East District HandloomS and Textiles under the aegis of National Handloom Development Programme organised a one-day awareness programme regarding imple mentation of Mega Handloom Cluster at Khongman Zone-4 Multipurpose Community Hall, Thongju AC on Tuesday.
The programme was attended by Power minister Thongam Biswajit as chief guest and District Hand-looms and Textiles, Imphal East project manager Th Ibemcha Devi as president while Weavers' Service Centre assistant director (weaving) M Ibohal Singh and National Handloom Development Corporation Ltd officer in-charge (marketing) Y Santikumar were present as guests of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, minister Th Biswajit urged all concerned to avail the benefits of the Mega Handloom Cluster.
He then observed that it is no longer difficult to ascertain the "taste" of handloom products in the global market, adding that there are many ways to conduct business nowadays.
As such, he suggested to the renowned designers of India to help determine the best possible ways in this regard.
In her speech, Th Ibemcha said that Mega Handloom Cluster is a scheme launched by the central government in honour of Olympic silver medallist Mirabai Chanu.
The scheme is being carried by 10 segments.
As of now, the state government has forwarded the details of 16,743 weavers in the state, of which 10,000 will be selected to receive the benefits.
Thus, the awareness programme has been conducted, she said, while adding that the scheme itself has 10 components and will provide a 50 per cent subsidy.
