A protest meeting of trade unions was held today at Meetei Sanglen, Moreh.
L Sotinkumar, general secretary AITUC, Ksh Shanta, covenor, Body of Trade Union, L Purojit, general secreatary, Manipur Government Service Fedearation, W Indrani Devi, secretary, Working Women Forum, Manipur and Noorjahan ASHA, Moreh attended the event as presidium members .
The meeting discussed topics such as minimum wages, social security, workers status, scheme workers (Angalwadi, ASHA, Mid-day-meal), payment policies, privatisation and Govt schemes .
Speaking at the meeting, L Sotinkumar asserted that Kerala has fixed Rs 600 a day as the minimum wage for workers and Manipur should follow such a policy to help uplift the minimum wagers.
He further said that the present Rs 2000 for Anganwadi workers and Rs 6000 per month for Village Defence Force is a meagre wage as compared to that of Kerala.
With increase in the price of commodities Govt should increase these wages and support the workers .
He alleged that privatisation is killing the livelihood of many in the State.
