Imphal, December 18 2014:
A 12-hour bandh along Imphal-Yairipok road to begin tomorrow in protest against acquisition of a playground by the Manipur Government for construction of a godown for PWD and Electricity Department.
Locals of Naharup Huirem Leikai and Bamon Kampu Leikai in Thoubal district's Yairipok told Newmai News Network that a bandh has been called from 6 am to 6 pm of December 19 to register a protest against acquisition of Lairenpat Ground by the Government.
Adults of the two neighbouring villages have been safeguarding the playground since 1996, they said.
They added that the playground has been acquired by the Government at the behest of Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh and MLA Amin Shah to construct a godown for PWD and Electricity Department.
The two leaders should withdraw the plan, they demanded, warning Ibobi and Amin Shah should own up responsibility for any untoward incident that occurs in future over the stalemate.
Religious related activities will be exempted from the purview of the strike, they said.
