Kakching, June 18 2022:
While dismissing as unfounded the claims that filling up of Aronkhong (canal) for construction of a market at Kakching Khunou Lamkhai has affected farm ing in 250 'Pari' of farmland as false, Kakching Khunou Lamkhai Bazar Committee has clarified that flow of water of the erstwhile canal was diverted after it was filled up.
The committee also contended that the diverted water is being used for irrigating the farmlands for many years now.
Addressing a press meet held at Kakching Khunou Lamkhai on Saturday, Committee secretary Kh Meghachandra suggested that instead of spreading false information, people and the government should extend Support to development of Kakching Khunou Lamkhei Keithel as a full-fledged market.
He recalled that the Committee was formed in 2012 in a public meeting with 275 members from nine wards of Kakching Khunou and the foundation stone of the market was laid on February 13, 2013 .
Later, Sugnu MLA K Ranjit constructed a vendor shed and a public toilet in the market area.
Meghachandra continued that ground levelling work for construction of the market was carried out in 2012 during which Aronkhong was filled up and the canal diverted.
This was done only after getting permission from farmer associations.
Farming activities have going bn for many years in the said farmlands using the water from diverted canal, he explained and questioned the rationale for claiming that farming activities have been affected.
Thus, the false charge being propounded is nothing but work of some people with vested interest, he alleged.
Meghachandra further appealed to the people that instead of raising a dispute all concerned contribute their mite towards early completion of the market's construction.
The press conference was also attended by Commit tee members Kh Babu, Kh Dinesh, Th Ingo, Kh Tomba, Kh Lukhoi, Ksh Joykumar and Singhajit.
