Imphal, March 17 2023:
With an aim to eradicate the malaise of drugs abuse in the state, Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) along with another students' body has formed a task force under the name, "Students' Anti-Drugs Task Force" .
Addressing media persons in this regard at its Kwakeithel office here on Friday, MSF general secretary Tekcham Rojit informed that the youth and students who are the future pillars of the society, have been gradually drowning in drugs thereby destroying their very existence in the society.
As such there is the need to save the future generation and bring them onto the right path.
It is with this idea that the state government has launched the "War on Drugs" campaign and the two student bodies have been wholeheartedly supporting the initiative.
As part of strengthening the campaign, the two student bodies will be organising a mass rally on March 29, he added.
He further informed that Thailand, Laos and Myanmar which together form the Golden Triangle have been abetting proliferation of psychotropic drugs particular opium and in the attempt to transport the drugs including Heroin from Myanmar to the north eastern states of India, the state of Manipur serves as the transit point and therefore, drugs are easily available in the state.
Maintaining that the easy availability of drugs in the state has adversely affected the youth of the state, Tekcham Rojit stated that the two student bodies will continue supporting the "War on Drugs" campaign and take the main role of saving the youth from the menace of drugs.
He also appealed to all authority concerned to extend support and cooperation to the activities taken up by the
two student bodies.
