Imphal, June 09 2013:
A day-long awareness programme on crimes against women and children was held under the joint aegis of All Manipur Women Voluntary Organisation and its Saiton Unit at Saiton Community Hall in Bishnupur district today.
Speaking on the occasion, RK Randhoni, Secretary of Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Association noted that crimes and violence against women and children in the State has increased manifold in the last couple of years.
Earlier, crimes and violence against women were carried out by Indian security forces.
But, today the situation has worsened with the State forces and male counterparts resorting to crimes against their female counterparts.
This is very unfortunate and so, we need to find out the root cause for such crimes and try to prevent it altogether.
The programme was also attended by Associate Prof Chinglen Maisnam of Manipur University; Y Kunjarani, President of All Manipur Women Voluntary Organisation; Pramila, President of its Saiton Unit and Memtombi, Head Mistress of Saiton Primary School as presidium members.
