Linthoi's mother-in-law sent to jail

Chief Judicial Magistrate, Thoubal on Wednesday sent Ksh (o) Ibemcha Devi (52), the mother-in-law of Nungshitombi alias Linthoi (22) w/o Kshetrimayaum Mahesh (25) of Kakching Laithagol Leikai Kshetri Pareng, Khangabok, who allegedly died after consuming poison on the intervening night of November 30 and December 1, to judicial remand.
On hearing news that the police will be producing Ibemcha at the court of CJM Thoubal on Wednesday, a huge crowd from Khangabok Part-3 thronged the court complex and shouted slogans demanding the culprits be arrested, to reject all bail pleas and award capital punishment to the guilty.
The police on duty at the court complex intercepted the crowd, leading to a brief standoff.
The standoff left some of elderly women injured.
It may be recalled that Linthoi's husband Mahesh was arrested by Kakching police on Tuesday and remanded in police custody.
The police had picked up Mahesh's mother Ibemcha on Monday in connection with the controversial death of the young housewife.
