Gandhi Jayanti, Sewa Pakhwada held across state

As concluding activities of Sewa Pakhwada carried out under the supervision of Tourism Corporation of Manipur Limited chairman Langthabal MLA Karam Shyam and to commemorate the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri, tree saplings were planted along with conducting a cleanliness drive at Pureiromba Eco Park, Chajing on Sunday.
Speaking in this regard, MLA Shyam informed that the activities under Sewa Pakhawada in Langthabal AC were successfully done.
The tree saplings planted will be taken care of by the people of respective polling stations, he said and urged the people and youth in particular to participate in programmes and activities done at the national level with due consideration that such activities will benefit the society at large.
Various organisations and departments also observed National Cleanliness Day to commemorate the 153rd birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi at different parts of the state on Sunday.
Central Agricultural University (CAU), College of Agriculture, Iroisemba observed Gandhi Jayanti by taking up a cleanliness drive in the campus along with paying floral tributes to the photo of Mahatma Gandhi.
The birth anniversary observed nationwide as National Cleanliness Day was participated by College of Agriculture teaching staff, non-teaching staff and scientists led by College's dean Prof Indira Sarangthem.
Similarly, cleanliness drive was carried out at CAU, Lamphelpat premises and central farms under the varsity by faculty members and students.
Wakha Primary School, Imphal East district observed National Cleanliness Day by conducting cleanliness drive at the school campus and Bishnupur Police at Bishnupur police station complex, Bishnupur Bazar and District Hospital Bishnupur Complex.
The programme was participated by Bishnupur Police personnel, Home Guard and women police personnel.
Bishnupur district administration also observed National Cleanliness Day through conduct of cleanliness and sanitation programmes in all the government offices and public institutions including the Mini Secretariat complex.
Officials and staff of various departments carried out cleanliness activities in their offices, subordinate offices and adjoining localities, including WRD, DIO/IPR, Employment Exchange, MSPDCL sub divisional offices, Statistics, Sericulture, PHED and different offices located within mini secretariat complex.
All the Municipal Councils and Gram Panchayats of the district under the supervision of executive officers and CEO, Zilla Parishad also undertook cleanliness drives in all town areas and Gram Panchayats.
It may be noted that the Nehru Yuva Kendra and District Cooperative Office have been assigned to mobilise local volunteers and clubs for participation in the cleanliness programmes.
Meanwhile, a month long cleanliness programme - Clean India Campaign - (Oct 1-31) was on Sunday inaugurated with Plogging Run & Cleanliness drive from Traffic Island Manipur University at Imphal.
MU vice chancellor Prof N Lokendra Singh led the run and drive.
The plogging run started from the traffic island and around the campus via SBI Bank - Health Centre - International Girls Hostels - Western side of the Staff Quarters - Children park - Boundary walls - Chandranadi river - Canteen road - Old Social Science Block and NSS Office, said a release by MU NSS-Cell coordinator Dr M Nodiyachand Singh.
While kicking off the run, Prof Lokendra said Mahatma Gandhi, father of the Nation loved Clean India and today the nation is following the path laid by him with 'Clean India Campaign' for a month long observance.
Dr Nodiyachand also said that the programme will include "all cleanings via all pending cases, files, processes in the authority offices and heads, dean and directors' offices, cleaning all condemned items in the offices/departments and making better spaces for smooth office work; cleaning single used plastic waste inside the MU Campus and near monuments".
MU registrar Prof W Chandbabu Singh, NSS Unit-I PO Dr S Sunil Singh, NSS Unit-II-PO Dr M Macha Chaoreikanba, NSS Unit-III-PO Dr H Suraj Singh and different heads, deans, directors, University Engineering, Security Officer also took part in the programme along with about 180 volunteers from NSS Unit-I, II & III and research scholars of boys' and girls' hostels of Manipur University.
