Imphal, February 28 2018:
Art and Culture Employee Association Manipur, staged a sit in protest in front of the Art and Culture office, Palace Compound, in connection with the appointment of an MCS officer as the in-charge of the Art and Culture Department by the State Government.
Speaking to media persons, president of the association, Chingakham Nandakumar said that the sit in protest has been organised due to the failure of the State Government to heed the demands of the association regarding the appointment of the Director of the Department.
He said that after the Director retired on January 31, the post has been remaining vacant, till the order of appointment of the MCS officer was issued.
He pointed out that the association had appealed and submitted numerous memos to the Ministry, Art and Culture Minister and the Commissioner concerned, to appoint the Director in-charge from among the senior officers of the Department and not to send an MCS or an IAS officer for the post.
Pushing aside the appeals of the employees and the association, the State Government appointed an MCS officer as the Director in-charge of the Department, he claimed.
Pointing out that there are many eligible and deserving senior officers in the Department itself, Nandakumar claimed that the employees of the Department also desire the Director in-charge to be someone who is an expert in performing arts in the interest of the State and its culture.
He mentioned that the protest, which began yesterday, will continue till the State Government listens to the demands of the employees.
