Imphal, January 31 2014 :
As part of its campaign for proper implementation of Right to Education (RTE) Act in the State, Manipur Alliance for Child Rights (MACR) has filed a complaint case to Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) against some unaided private schools namely Nirmalabas High School, Catholic School, St Joseph School and Little Flower School for imposing a minimum of 60 percent cut off mark as eligibility criteria for admission to Class I and II .
Informing this in a press release, MACR pointed out that as Section 13 of Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009 prohibits any screening procedure for admission while Section 16 prohibits holding back and expulsion, there should not be such discriminatory criteria against the mandate of RTE Act which gives more weightage to brilliant students only while preventing a child who obtained below 60 percent marks in the promotion examination from taking part in the proposed Lottery system for admission to Class I and II .
