Imphal, January 30 2022:
Restrictions under Section 144 of CrPC has been imposed in the office complex of Manipur People's Party (MPP) near Mapal Kangjeibung.
The restrictions, however, do not cover the shops and other business establishments around the office complex building.
In an order, District Magistrate, Imphal West Th Kirankumar informed that SP Imphal West reported about prohibition of entry of MPP members and civilians in and around the land known as complex of the office of MPP and a group of shopkeepers also sent representation about huge loss incurred due to closure of their shops in the premises without formal notice.
As such, there is likelihood of breach of peace and disturbance to public tranquillity and grave danger to human life.
Moreover, as the dispute amongst the members of MPP could not come to a conclusion despite several rounds of litigation that took place before the District Court and High Court of Manipur and the ECI's denial of allotting the erstwhile reserved symbol Bicycle' to the party on the ground that there is no authorised office bearers of the party, the DM imposed restrictions under Section 144 of CrPC in the aforementioned complex.
The order further informed that agencies of the government involved in the enforcement of law and order and the maintenance of essential services shall be exempted from the prohibition.
