Imphal, September 28 2021:
In connection with a complaint made to Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) requesting an enquiry into the death of Athuan Abonmai, the Commission has directed Chief Secretary, Director General of Police and Tamenglong District SP to submit a report on the steps taken up for solving the case, within two weeks.
According to the complaint submitted to the Commission, in addition to taking up an FIR, it urged the state home department to prevail upon the union home ministry for handing over the case to National Investigation Agency (NIA).

The complainant then requested the Commission to conduct an enquiry into the incident under Section 12(a) read (J) of Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993.The Commission registered the complaint case and directed the respondents, namely Chief Secretary, DGP and Tamenglong SP to submit a report on the action taken up till date and the reason for not conducting a full-fledged investigation, within two weeks.
It then fixed October 12 for further processing of the case.
