Combined team recovers IED fitted in coconut

Imphal, November 26 2021:
A combined team of Imphal East district police commando and 15 Assam Rifles seized an IED fitted in coconut shell from a cadre of the proscribed PREPAK (Pro) on Thursday at near Koirengei bridge.
The arrested cadre has been identified as Nongthombam Abung Meitei alias Nongdam-ba (20) son of Nandakumar of Nongpok Sanjenbam Khullen.
Speaking to media persons at his conference hall on Friday, Imphal East SP N Herojit informed that the combined team conducted frisking and checking from Mantripukhri to Koirengei on Thursday in continuation of the security measures being taken up to prevent occurrence of unwanted incident.
The team detained a suspicious person near Koirengei bridge around 3.35 pm.
The person identified himself as Abung and he turned out to be a cadre of the proscribed PREPAK Pro.
During interrogation, Abung revealed that he came for recce to plant IED within Koirengei to Mantri pukri.
It is believed that he was planning to attack IGAR South, SP Herojit opined, while informing that IED fitted in coconut shell, hidden at Thumbi Ghingkhong, was also recovered.
Two LDX cakes weighing 150 gm, RC receivers (circuit board), two electric detonators (no 33), 9-volt batteries (Panasonic) and one remote control device were also seized from the possession of Abung, who also revealed that the bomb was handed over to him by one Ango of PREPAK Pro at Moreh in October this year.
The arrested person along with the seized items has been handed over to Heingang police station for further investigation, the SP said and appealed to the people to contact the police if they spot any suspicious person or items so as to prevent any unwanted incidents from occurrence.
