Women Action for Development (WAD) submitted a memorandum highlighting two cases of crimes against women each to Governor Dr Najma Heptulla and Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
The memorandum mentioned the alleged rape and murder case of a 10-year-old deaf and mute girl and the alleged rape case of a 21-year-old nursing student.
WAD drew the attention of the Home Department to investigate the cases and deliver justice to the victims and their families.
Both the cases took place in 2014 in Bishnupur district and the Struggle for justice has been going for the last three -four years, it said.
According to the memorandum, the alleged rape and murder of a 10-year-old deaf and mute girl occurred when she went to bring back her cow from a field on January 22, 2014 in Bishnupur district.
After she failed to return home, villagers searched for her everywhere as soon as they heard the news of her missing.
Surprisingly, her dead body was found under an old culvert between Phazol hill and Chongangkhong village on January 31, 2014.It stated that justice to the victim's family is not yet delivered despite filing a case under FIR number 2 (1) 2014 Kumbi PS U/S 302/34 IPC referred to Bishnupur Women PS.
Referring to the alleged rape case of a 21 years old nursing student, WAD claimed that the girl student, a diabetes patient was kidnapped by one Phurailatpam Nanao Sharma s/o Sunil Sharma and Damayenti Devi of Wangjing Wangkhei, Thoubal district on October 26, 2014.She was brutally and mercilessly raped by Nanao and later abandoned unconsciously on October 29.So far, the perpetrator has not been arrested by the police because he is a close relative of an MLA.
A case under FIR no (10) 2014 WPS-BPR U/S 366/368/342/376/34 IPC was registered, it stated.
