Bishnupur, September 23 2021:
Educated Unemployed Youth Piggery Dairy cum Poultry Farming Co-Operative Society publicity secretary Y Basanta Singh has clarified that no attempt was made to encroach on the land along the historic Thongjaorok Maril through which water from different areas of Bishnupur flows into the Loktak lake.
Y Basanta told media persons on Thursday that Thongjaorok Maril originates from Mishirok, Toubulok and Karong.
Water from these areas flows for around 7 kilometres before it falls into Loktak lake through Thongjaorok Maril (canal) which is 200-300 feet wide.
The allegation levelled by residents of Mamang Leikai Ward No.5 that fish and piggery farms along Thongjaorok Maril pollute the water at Toubul, Khoijuman and Kwashiphai villages is baseless and malicious, he said, adding that farmers dig pit at piggery farms and no water from these farms is releases into the canal.
Rearing of pigs along Thongjaorok Maril had stopped since the past three months due to spread of Swine Flu, he also clarified.
Bishnupur Kha Youth Athletic Club former secretary Th Gitchandra Singh, who also attended the press conference, said that the society welcomes development activities taken up by the government along Thongjaorok Maril and the society will never act against the Manipur Land Revenue Act.
He said that pig rearing at wetland and government's undocumented lands continued since the past 15 years by youth as NYK provides training for the same.
Pig rearing along Thongjaorok Maril had stopped recently and hence it is unreasonable to lodge complaint.
The press conference was also attended by Society's president H Rajesh and secretary P Pringchong Chothe.
