Govindas hails army for nurturing talented youths

Football Lovers of Senapati defeated Brothers FC of Sapermaina by 5-2 goal margin in the final of the Major Bob Khathing Football Tournament 2022-23 played on Monday at Mission Veng ground, Leimakhong.
The winners Football Lovers took home the trophy and Rs 50,000 cash prize while runners-up Brothers FC had to be contented with Rs 20,000 cash prize of the tournament which kicked off from Marchi.
The closing ceremony of the tournament was attended by YAS minister Govindas Konthoujam, Brigadier Shanker J Tiwari of 59 Mountain Brigade and other top officials of Indian Army.
Village leaders of Leimakhong and surrounding areas also attended the closing ceremony.
In his speech, YAS minister Govindas Konthoujam commended the efforts of the Red Shield Division in providing sports opportunity to local youth and helping in overall progress and development of the society.
He said that government has been extending support to efforts being made by different organisations and stakeholders towards promotion of games and sports.
While describing Major Bob Kha-thing as a highly valued person born in the state, Govindas said the late military man yearned for uniform development and considered both hills and valley people as one.
He also said that every people of the land should encourage the football tournament organised in the name of Major Bob Khathing while maintaining that there is no boundary in sports like culture.
He also assured to consult with chief minister to develop Mission Veng ground, the only ground for 30 villages of Leimakhong and its surrounding villages and a proposal in this regard had already been made by 59 Mountain Brigade commander, Brigadier Shanker J Tiwari.
Meanwhile, a statement of PRO defence wing said Major Bob Khathing Memorial Football Tournament concluded on Monday after 13 days of exhilarating and intense competition between 20 teams from different parts of the state.
The tournament was a resounding success, bringing together football enthusiasts from across the region.
The tournament has not only provided a platform for the young players to showcase their skills but also helped the communities to come together and celebrate the spirit of sportsmanship, the statement said.
