NESO demands declaration of Jan 30 as Anti-Racism Day

Members of All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU) and North East Students' Organisation (NESO) today jointly staged a dharna in the front of Raj Bhawan, Itanagar against the racial abuse which lead to a death of a young Arunachalee in national capital last month.
Many students from several institute participated in the dharna.
During the course of the protest demonstration, NESO also submitted a memorandum to the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh placing certain relevant demands on behalf of people of NE region.
The demands included giving capital punishment to all the perpetrators of the heinous crimes at the earliest, initiating stringent action against the police personnel for failure to register case as well as the failure to conduct medical examination following the first assault by the accused persons, erection of a memorial/statue of lt.Nido Tania at suitable location in the national capital so that people are reminded of the tragedy and a message is sent against atrocities on northeasterners residing in the national capital as well as across the country, declaration of January 30 as National Anti-Racism Day in India by the Govt, issuing of instruction by the Ministry of Human Resource Development for inclusion of the NE- Its geographical location, its people, its culture, its ethos, etc in the syllabus of school under all states board and central board including the CBSE and awareness campaign across the country and enactment of stringent Anti-Racism Act in the country.
Earlier, General Secretary of NESO Prakash Sinam Singh who led the NESO team urged all the students and people across the state to stand united against such barbaric racial attacks on North Easterners in other parts of the country.
He also questioned the govt.of India for their failure to protect the people belonging to NE and pointed out that just few days after the murder of Nido Tania, a minor girl from Manipur was raped by the son of her landlord.
"It shows that we the people of NE are still unsafe in national capital", he said, while appealing to the political leaders of the NE region to be united without politicizing the issue.
"We should work for the people of region rather than the mileage of any political party and their government," he added.
Meanwhile, Shillong Manipuri Students' Union has submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh of Manipur demanding immediate steps to stop incidents of racial attacks on students from North east in other parts of the country particularly in the National capital Delhi as well as for enactment of a strong anti-racial discrimination law.
