Civil aviation minister assures revival of Imphal-Silchar flight service

Imphal, August 10 2021:
Rajya Sabha MP and titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba called on union minister for civil aviation Jyotiraditya M Scindia and proposed for resumption of the Imphal-Silchar flight service, which remained suspended for over seven years now.
The minister also reportedly gave his assurance of looking into the proposal.
In his proposal, the MP pointed out that the Imphal-Silchar flight service, which served as an important route for the people of Manipur and Barak valley of Assam in various sectors including education and medical studies as well as healthcare, stopped since 2013.Highlighting the issues faced by the people of the two states in terms of aerial connectivity, the MP drew attention of the union minister for resumption of the flight service.
Sources said that the MP was scheduled to bring up the proposal in the Parliament but could not get the opportunity due to frequent disruptions of the parliament session due to protest by opposition parties.
As a result, the MP called on the union minister and placed the proposal directly.
Mention may be made here that All Assam Manipuri Students' Union (AAMSU), Central Committee submitted a memorandum in this regard to the titular king on July 16.The titular king after considering the genuine concerns of the people of Barak valley area took up the proposal with the civil aviation minister.
In its memorandum, AAMSU said that after the suspension of the flight service, people in the region particularly the faculty members and students of Manipur in Assam University (Silchar), National Institute of Technology (Silchar), Silchar Medical college and also faculty members and students of Barak Valley in Manipur University, Imphal, are facing various issues and several CSOs of the region have been demanding restoration of the flight service.
