Citizens briefed on fundamental rights, duties

District Legal Services Authorities (DLSA), Churachandpur organised an awareness programme on fundamental rights and duties at different locations on Friday.
The first session of the first programme conducted at Rayburn College had Churachandpur chief judicial magistrate & DLSA secretary Sorokhaibam Sadananda deliberating on the importance and fundamental rights and duties enshrined in the constitution of India as the resource person.
Around 80 college students of political science along with the teachers of the college attended the programme.
The evening session held at Rayburn Higher Secondary School with the students of class - XI in attendance had district and sessions judge Lamkhanpau Tonsing, who is also the DLSA chairman, as the resource person.
Lamkhanpau stressed on the importance of understanding the fundamental rights enshrined in the constitution of India with elaborate reference on decisions of the Supreme Court relevant to every fundamental right.
Lamkhanpau also spoke on fundamental duties and urged the students to perform their duties as responsible citizens of the nation.
He reminded that it is everyone's duty to conserve natural resources and take care of the public properties for the development of the nation.
The judge also highlighted the functions of DLSA and it is trying to generate awareness to build a strong nation of abiding citizens.
He also explained that the phrase "We, the People of India" in the preamble of the constitution denotes all the people of India, adding that our secularism is not under the hands of any government but is in the hands of the people and has never changed.
During the awareness programme, the preamble of the constitution was also read by all the students, the teachers and the staff of school/college.
The programme was also attended by panel lawyers, retainer lawyer and staffers of DLSA Churachandpur.
The DLSA Churachandpur expressed its heartfelt gratitude to the Rayburn school/college authorities, panel lawyers, retainer lawyer for making the programme a grand success.
