Training, workshop on Folk Dance & Music begin

Kakching, May 29 2022:
Women's Society for Cultural Heritage (WOSCH), Kakching Khunyai Leikai inaugurated a three-month long training programme on Folk Dance and Folk Music at its dance training hall on Sunday.
Sponsored by Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, the inaugural function of the programme was attended by Macha Chanu Kakching president and Kakching Higher Secondary School senior lecturer (History) Dr Nongmaithem Pramodini Devi as chief guest, and WOSCH Kakching president Kshetrimayum Memma Devi as president.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Pramodini explained that folk dance and music cannot be performed willy-nilly, as it concerns an inseparable part of our culture, religious rituals and activities, and subjected to time and place.
She then said that as long as we uphold and preserve our language, culture and tradition, our community will continue to flourish.
Thus, there is the need to teach folk dance and music to the younger generation for the sake of the future, she contended.
WOSCH Kakching secretary Yengkhom Tanou Devi delivered the keynote speech.
In all, 20 girls are taking part in the training programme.
Meanwhile, Scheduled Caste Children's Cultural Dance Academy (SCCCDA), Kakching Khunyai Leikai under the sponsorship of Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, inaugurated a threemonth long workshop cum production on Khubak Eshei for school going children at the dance training hall of the Academy located at Kakching Khunyai Leikai KMC Road on Sunday.
The inaugural function was attended by Macha Chanu president Dr N Pramodini as chief guest and SCCCDA Kakching president Naorem Sanahal Devi as president.
Altogether, 20 girl students are participating in the workshop.
SCCCDA secretary Binashakhi Mayanglambam spoke about the workshop.
