Imphal, July 28 2022: As part of 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' - to celebrate 75 years of India's Independence, the ministry of Power in association with MSPDCL, Powergrid and district administrations of Imphal West, Imphal East, Tamenglong and Bishnupur districts organised a 'Bijli Mahotsav' on Thursday at their respective districts.

The Bijli Mahotsav is used as a platform to celebrate the collaboration between the state and the central governments and highlight key achievements of power sector.

It is being celebrated all over the country under the umbrella of Ujjwal Bharat Ujjwal Bhavishya - Power@2047 for more public participation and getting across the developments in the power sector to the citizens at large.

In Imphal West, the programme was held at Salam Mayai Leikai.

Some of the key achievements of the district are 72 habitation infrastructure and electriftcation successfully implemented under DDUGJY-New Scheme, under System Strengthening and IPDS across 26 habitation, including Imphal, Lamsang and Sekmai towns.

Under the Saubhagya Scheme, 7081 households were given free registration for power/electric connection, supply of 28,930 LED 9 watt bulb at subsidised rate and installation of 2,50,131 prepaid meter across Imphal West district till date.

The programme was attended by Imphal West district collector Th Kiranku-mar, Zila Parishad member N Promo, up-pradhan Miranda Devi, members H Sunita, S Joy and Imphal Power Grid Corporation of India Limited chief manager Jivesh Khanna, MSPDCL officials and large turnout from nearby villages and districts.

The dignitaries highlighted the benefits of electricity and the unprecedented growth shown in power sector over the past few years.

The events also witnessed several beneficiaries sharing their experiences.

In Tamenglong district, the programme was organised at Peace Hall, Tamenglong town with deputy commissioner Pawan Yadav, SDO Paul Nang-sha and Machunlong Ward No 6 chairman KC Paul as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.

Speaking on the occasion, DC Pawan informed that power connectivity in Tamenglong has improved a lot, however he maintained that the de partment needs to focus on the number of hours electricity is to be supplied.

Construction of the Power Sub-Station in Tamenglong is in progress but due to land issues, works have been delayed for some time, he informed, adding that as soon as the Power Sub-Station is functional, power supply in Tamenglong district will be improved significantly.

The DC also urged the Tamenglong denizens to extend cooperation to any governmental works taken up in the district and thanked SELCO Foundation for providing Solar Power System at District Hospital Tamenglong.

As a part of the programme, short films on Universal Household Electrification, Village Electrification, Distribution System strengthening, Capacity Addition, Renewable Energy and film on Consumer Rights, film on State Achievement, Nukkad Natak and cultural performances were showcased.

Speaking to the media persons on the sidelines, MSPDCL Tamenglong division deputy generalmanager Lourembam Momocha Singh informed that there are nine villages which are yet to be electrified and the department is working to electrify those villages this year.

He also stated that MSPDCL will install prepaid metering system in all the villages of Tamenglong including District Headquarters.

Unfortunately, Tamenglong district was without power supply on the day of Bijli Mahotsav and Ujala Diwas celebration day as the 33kv HT line from Reangpang to Tamenglong tripped due to landslide last night.

The Electric Department informed that electric poles had been damaged in three locations and rectification work is in progress.

Ujala Bharat & Ujjwala Diwas programme was also organised at Panchayat Bhawan Hall of Imphal East DC office complex, Porompat on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, Imphal East DC Khumanthem Diana remarked that India has been able to make good strides in electricity power generation capacity to the level of selling electricity to other countries.

In the past 8 years, the power sector has made many achievements including providing electricity 24x7 in the remote areas of the country.

On top of this, the Electricity Rights of Consumer 2020 has helped the government in resolving some of the common grievances of the people.

She then said that the government is organising the People's Day (Meeyamgi Numit) on every 15th of the month which is participated by various line departments including the Power Department, wherein the public can bring up their issues with regard to electricity apart from availing other facilities during the event.

In his speech, deputy general manager IED 3 MSPDCL Ningombam Birjit said that the supply of electricity in the state has improved significantly over the years.

He then urged consumers to use electricity judiciously and also cooperate with the initiatives.
