Imphal, July 25 2019:
Locals and students of Senjam Chirang, Sekmai AC, staged a sit in protest today opposing the decision to amalgamate Government schools in the State.
The protesters condemned the attempt to amalgamate Senjam Chirang Government Primary School and Senjam Khunou Govt Primary School.
Speaking to media persons, convenor of the School Management Committee (SMC) of Senjam Chirang Govt Primary School, Ngangbam Nongalei said that the people will not accept the decision to amalgamate the two schools.
Nongalei continued that just recently, due to the hard work of the School Management Committee and the people, the school began to have around 50 students and added that currently, as the Government sent only 4 teachers for the school, SMC has been hiring teachers from its own pocket.
At a time when demands are being made for sending the requisite number of teachers, it is unfortunate that a decision has been taken to instead amalgamate the two schools.
If the Government's decision is not revoked, intense agitation will be launched, Nongalei cautioned.
