Chandel bandh lifted

Traffic along Indo-Myanmar road between Imphal and Moreh is likely to resume soon following the lifting of bandh this afternoon.
Responding to Manipur Government's appeal and assurance, the Chandel Naga People's Organisation (NPO) called off its Chandel district indefinite bandh on Monday after three days.
The Indo-Myanmar road traverses Chandel district.
On Monday, the bandh is being called off from 2 pm following appeal and assurance by representatives of the state Government to meet its demand soon, CNPO secretary BD Betha told Newmai News Network.
The Chandel district bandh was jointly enforced by CNPO, Naga Chief's Association, Chandel (NCAC) and Chandel Autonomous District Council (ADC) teachers in protest against the explanation call issued to 201 ADC Chandel teachers and show cause notice served to another seven teachers of the district ADC by the Government.
Betha said leaders of CNPO, NCAC and Chandel ADC teachers met Manipur Government representatives at the Chandel constituency MLA's quarter in Lamphel here in the morning.
The Government representatives including Chandel constituency MLA Victor Nungho, CEO, Chandel, L Darsimso, DI DK Moshilpha took part in the talks, he said.
He said during the meeting, the Government side assured the agitating side led by CNPO for fulfillment of its demand soon and appeal it to call of the strike which began to enforce from July 19 midnight.
Responding to the assurance, the bandh was called off on Monday, he added.
