Remembering Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 96th birth anniversary, Manipur Government today celebrated "Quami Ekta Week" at the state Secretariat here.
Chief Minister in his speech on the occasion asserted commemoration of Quami Ekta Week calls for upholding the oneness and reaffirming the patriotism.
Quami Ekta Week will be observed across the country on various themes-Weaker Section on November 22, Cultural Integrity Day on November 23, Women's Day onNovember 24 and Conservation Day on November 25-to remember Gandhi on her birthday through the week-long celebration.
Deputy Chief Minister mentioned that Indira as a leader always equally looked upon all the communities in India having different caste, creed, religion and section.
The late first woman Prime Minister of the country was a very courageous leader who had boldly battled both internal and external threats, Gaikhangam said.
She also became the chairperson of Non-Align Movement and strived for a peaceful co-existence amongst the NAM nations besides making every effort to make them nuclear-free member countries, he said.
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) too observed the day at the Congress Bhavan here.
