Zeliangrong organisations demand release of civilian

Imphal, December 18 2017:
Zeliangrong Youth Front and Zeliangrong Students’ Union today condemned the 5 unit J&K Light Infantry Regiment posted at Patsoi, Imphal for the arrest of a civilian named Thainingam Gonmei alias Angam (27) s/o Huruanthui Gonmei a resident of Phailong (Bhalok) village, Tamenglong district on December 16 at around 2.30 pm from Patsoi .
A press release issued by the ZYF and ZSU alleged that Thainingam Gonmei was tortured by the J&K Regiment before handing him over to the Patsoi police station.
The press release alleged that he was administered electric shock and cold water poured on his head and face .
Later, he was charged for ‘connection with underground/terrorist’ and at present he is with the Patsoi police station on fabricated and baseless charge, alleged the press release .
The organisations appealed that the alleged charge against Thainingam Gonmei be dropped and released as he is an innocent civilian.
The organisations warned authorities concerned that they will launch democratic agitation if he is not released without any condition attached .
Thainingam Gonmei is a daily wage earner who worked for 32nd Bn CRPF as a cook earlier .
He was staying at Reangdailong (Sadu Khoiroi), Churachandpur district after his marriage to a girl from the village.
He has two children, added the statement.
