National seminar on NE folklore kick starts

A three day National seminar on "Folklore of North East India was inaugurated today in the Conference Hall of Manipur Institute of Management Studies, Manipur University.
Professor Adya Prasad Pandey Vice- Chancellor, MU; Prof DG Rao Director, CI1L, Mysore and " Jawaharlal '" Handoo president, IFC were present as' chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.
Addressing the gathering, Professor Pandey stated that the seminar on folklore of North East is very important in many senses.
He stated that India is known and popular for its rice culture, tradition and custom in the International level.
It is the responsibility of every one to maintain and preserve the tradition and custom through education and academic curriculum, he added.
He also observed that Manipur University should have a separate school of folklore.
Professor Handoo emphasised on the need to introduce folklore of North East in every Central University.
He highlighted popular culture of different tribes of India and their relevance in the contemporary age.
Professor Rao highlighted some of the popular traditional folk dances and songs practised in the country.
He stated that folklore signifies strong moral values in � the society and as such it should be introduced in the primary education level.
The function was also attended by faculty members, research scholars and students of Manipur University and several delegates from outside the State.
A souvenir was released during the inaugural function.
Prof M Mani Meitei, organising secretary IFC 41 gave the welcome speech while Professor S Sanatombi, academic secretary, IFC 41 proposed vote of thanks.
