A tribute concert for Tangkhul rock pioneer

A tribute rock concert for Akui Valley Source Mashangva was held yesterday at town hall, Ukhrul in remembrance and acknowledging of his contribution in promoting Tangkhul music, Mungchan Zimik reports.
Guru Reuben Mashangva and Thangmeiso Shinglai opened the concert reviving the songs by the late artist.
About 14 Tangkhul music bands took part in the concert including Atai kamei. The concert was organized by Friend and' Fly's, a conglomeration of Tangkhul artists and music lovers of the town.
Akui Valley Source Mashangva '-eleased his first album "Akui" in 1987.The songs in the collection were a fusion of modem Tangkhul rock.
He died at the age of 48 this years.
In a brief interaction with Guru Reuben Mashangva on the sidelines of the musical concert, he said Akui Mashangva was the pioneer of Tangkhul rock music.
Because of his high pitches and unique rhythm, fusion of Tangkhul music with western music gained into momentum.
