Chief Minister N Biren Singh met the officials of the newly constituted Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Department at Chief Minister's Secretariat today.
During the meeting, the officers were informed about the rationale of setting up such a new Department.
The Chief Minister told the officials that the Department was created so as to bring transparency and to remove corruption in the functioning of the Government.
N Biren also explained to the officers that corruption leads to lack of trust in the Government by the people.
As the Government is seriously invested to tackle the menace of corruption in a time-bound manner, the officials were personally advised to work effectively without any fear and favour.
It may be mentioned that the State Cabinet approved the re-designation of the State Vigilance Department as the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Department on January 4 .
The office of SP (Vigilance and Anti-corruption) will now function also as the Police Station (Anti-corruption), which shall have jurisdiction over the entire State of Manipur.
The Department will deal specifically with trap cases and disproportionate assets cases.
The Department will also designate Nodal Officers for coordinating with the Anti-Corruption Cell in the Chief Minister's Secretariat.
