Thoubal, March 06 2022:
While contending that voters were denied access and polling agents of political parties other than BJP were barred from entering nine polling stations (34/9-17) under Wangjing-Tentha AC by supporters of BJP candidate Paonam Brojen, large number of people marched towards the Thoubal DC office on Sunday demanding authorities to conduct re poll in the said polling stations.
The march led by Wangjing-Tentha AC INC candidate Moirangtham Hemanta was intercepted by police at Athokpam Bazar.
Later, Hemanta, Tentha GP pradhan Naorem Pradip and two other INC election agents were allowed to meet the DC, during which they submitted a memorandum highlighting their grievances and demands.
The placard-holding protestors also shouted slogans demanding re-poll.
Speaking to media per sons in this regard, Hemanta alleged that polling agents other than that of BJP were denied access to polling stations from 9 to 17 of the constituency.
Some BJP agents also cast proxy vote, he said, while demanding the authorities concerned to produce webcast footage of the nine polling stations for perusal.
While pointing out that recording thumb impression and signature of voters is mandatory before one is allowed to cast vote, he demanded that the votes should be counted after cross-checking the same.
The candidate also informed that compared to the high turnout of voters there are many eligible electors under Wangjing-Tentha AC whose fingers are not inked, thereby corroborating electoral malpractices.
He, thus, urged author ities concerned to conduct survey if necessary.
