Issues besieging PwDs discussed on their day

Differently abled persons are performing their duties towards the society but there are many normal persons from whom everybody needs to stay alert in order to save the society, said Naoriya Pakhanglakpa AC's intending candidate Dr Soraisam Manaoton.
He was speaking as chief guest of the International Day for Disabled Persons observance organised jointly by Society for Disabled Care, Hiyangthang and Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Block Congress Committee.
Speaking at the event held at his Mekola residence, Manaoton observed that the differently abled persons accept their fates and live their lives while contributing to the society.
Many of them can do many things which normal persons cannot perform.
The government needs to take up initiatives to support them and help them excel in one or another area so that they can live with pride.
Unfortunately, the 60 MLAs seem to have no care for them, he said.
He also said that he will reserve some portion of the local area development fund for differently abled persons if he gets elected as the MLA of Naoriya Pakhanglakpa assembly constituency.
There are around 200 differently abled persons in the constituency and he will provide support to them so that they could take up income generating activities in whatever field they suit.
For years, he has been helping them and will continue his service for them, he said.
Later, he provided blankets and gifts to 60 differently abled persons who attended the event.
He also visited others, who could not attend the programme.
District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) of Imphal West, Imphal East and Tamenglong also jointly observed the International Day of Persons with Disabilities at the conference hall of ADR building, Lamphelpat on Friday.
The observance was attended by District and Sessions Judge cum DLSA Imphal West and Tamenglong chairman A Guneshwar, Special Court NDPS Judge Lamkhanpao Tonsing, MASLSA member secretary O Ojesh Mutum and All Manipur Bar Association president advocate Nilachandra, along with judicial officers, panel lawyers, front office and PLVs.
During the observance, advocate and panel lawyer Imphal East Th Premlata spoke on Leadership and Participation of Persons with Disabilities towards an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post-Covid-19 world' as resource person.
