Succor for the blind in the state soon

National Federation of the Blind, the largest and apex self help organisation of the blind persons having branches all over the country with a regional centre at Guwahati for the North East and affiliated to World Blind Union will be opening a branch unit in Imphal.
According to Md Imran Ali, Secretary cum In Charge North East Affairs, the National Federation of the Blind was established in 1972 with various objectives including to act as the protector of the rights of the blind with the philosophy "Let the Blind Lead the Blind" and has been running an education, Training and Rehabilitation Centre for the blind at Dharmtul, Dist Morigoan in Assam and various other blind welfare programs and projects in many parts of the country which include, among others, placement service schemes, computerized Braille press, Braille E-Text and Talking book library, computer and career development centres, hostels for college going blind students, national scholarship scheme for the blind, housing and interest free educational loan scheme, financial aid to the blind for medical treatment and natural calamity etc.
the spokesperson further expressed the commitment of the federation to establish an institute for higher and technical education for the blind, residential school for blind girls for integrated studies, need-base and community-base job oriented training programs for the blind as well as to modernize the educational system for the blind as per national standard in Assam at a press meet held today at the Manipur Press Club.
He also urged the state government to extend support and cooperation to make the efforts of the federation bear fruit.
