500 acres of land to be developed for Timber Park

The State Government has decided to establish a Timber Park in the State and for that the concerned officials have started inspected land area for the purpose in Kakching under Thoubal district.
The officials of Commerce and Industries Department, Government of Manipur today visited Kakching to inspect probable sites for setting up the proposed Timber Park.
Initially, the team inspected an area of land measuring around 300 acres for the said purpose.
But since the actual area for setting up a Timber Park would require 500 acres of land, further inspection of other probable sites would continue.
After identification of a suitable project site, a detail project report is to be submitted to the Centre.
It has been reported that timbers from Myanmar are to be imported for the Timber Park which is to be set up in Thoubal district.
As the price of timber has skyrocketed in the international market while at the same time the demand for timber both in the State and outside has increased, the need for setting up a Timber Park in the State has arisen.
It is hoped that the once implemented, the proposed Timber Park would create employment opportunities to many educated unemployed youths of the State as well as to those who are expert in manufacturing timber products.
