Singhat cops recover 5.148 kg brown sugar

Churachandpur, March 31 2023:
A team of Singhat police station on Thursday arrested two people identified as T Thangmuanlal (28), son of Tuanson of Dailon village in Pherzawl district and Thangsonmuan (36), son of Goukhozam of Vengnuam, New Lamka, Churachandpur district with 429 soap cases containing 5.148 kg of brown sugar.
According to police report, based on a tip off about transportation of contraband drugs from Singhgat to Churachandpur along the Tedim road, a team of Singhat police station led by its OC inspector Thangpu Tonsing conducted frisking and checking operation in Sumchinvum village area under Singhat sub-division on Thursday night.
At about 11:30 pm, two vehicles, a black coloured Honda Dio and a red coloured Honda Activa without registration number driven by the two accused were stopped for checking.
On searching the vehicles, the team recovered two white jute bags containing 286 and 143 soap cases totalling 429 soap cases filled with suspected brown sugar weighing 5.148 kg in total.
On preliminary interrogation, the accused disclosed that one Bolero and one white Gypsy were expected to receive the consignment near Haijang village.
Subsequently, the team rushed to the spot but found the two vehicles abandoned.
Sources from Singhat police station stated that further investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, a team of Imphal West commando unit arrested a drug peddler identified as Mayengbam Shashikanta (27), son of (late) M Bishworjit of Keishamthong Thangjam Leirak around 1:40 pm Friday from Keishamthong Thangjam Leirak petrol pump.
According to police report, a team of Imphal West commando unit on frisking and checking operation near the petrol pump stopped the accused and recovered a soap ease containing 13 gm of heroin from his possession.
On initial investigation, the accused disclosed that he was given the drug by one person for selling.
