Police action on students flayed

Coming out strongly against the police action on the students of CC Higher Secondary School and Johnstone Higher Secondary during a democratic rally taken out yesterday to press the demand for implementation of Inner Line Permit system in the State, the Students' Wing of the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has asserted that such conduct of the police has shown that they are not for safeguarding the rights and lives of people.
In a statement, Media Co-ordinator of the Students' Wing Angouton Khuman asserted that such inhuman conducts of the Manipur police personnel is not be seen in other parts of the world.
Stating that inspite of such police action, students in Manipur would not be deterred from raising the demand for implementation of Inner Line Permit in the State for the protection of indigenous people, Angouton informed even today students of MEM Higher Secondary School; HRD Academy, Millennium Institute of Science carried forward the movement by partially blocking the Tiddim road.
Meanwhile, Kanglei Ima Lup (KIL) and Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation (MMWO) have condemned the alleged high-handedness of the of the state police personnel who resorted to lathi-charge on students demanding implementation of Inner Line Permit system.
In separate statements, the two organizations endorse the demand for implementation of Inner Line Permit System and assured to extend their co-operation to the ongoing public movement.
KIL has also denounced the State Cabinet decision of converting Ramlal Paul Higher Secondary School into a girls' higher secondary school for science stream.
