Altogether there are 1,34,062 vehicles in Manipur whereas the total number of driving license holders is 2,86,989, stated Transport Minister L Jayantakumar during question hour of the Assembly today.
Responding to a query raised MLA M Hemanta, Jayantakumar informed the House that Manipur has 1,03,099 two-wheelers, 8,678 three-wheelers and 30,096 four-wheelers.
During 2009-10, the State Finance Department collected Rs 5,52,39,413 as vehicle tax against the target amount of Rs 6,57,74,000 .
For the current fiscal till June, vehicle tax amounting to Rs 1,03,93,951 has been collected as vehicle tax.
Stating that Government vehicles and private vehicles can be identified by checking their registration certificates, the Transport specified that commercial vehicles including taxis, school buses and school van should paint their registration numbers in black colour over blue background.
Both Government and private vehicles should paint their registration numbers in black colour over white background.
He said that efforts were being made to increase manpower of Transport Department.
In response to a question put up by MLA Salam Joy, Works Minister K Ranjit said that existing breadth of State Highway 5 (Mayang Imphal road) is 5.5 m and this would be broadened by 2.5 m on either sides to make it a four-lane highway.
So far, necessary initiatives have been launched to develop the highway into a four-lane highway from 0 Km to 4 Km.
From 4 Km to 7.5 Km, necessary breadth to make it a four-lane highway has been fixed.
With land acquisition process along the State highway already completed, black-topping work begin once the rainy season is over, stated Ranjit.
As of now, development work of the road would be confined to filling up potholes.
The DC has been conducting a survey for acquisition of 2.82 acres of land for making a road connecting Leimakhong military station to NH 39 near Sekmai bottling plant.
Even though the proposed road of width 5.5 m is vital, no land has been acquired for the road as yet, clarified Revenue Minister Th Debendra in response to a query raised by H Borajao.
Answering a question put up by N Mangi, Chief Minister O Ibobi said that 65 tenders have been connected for PMGSY works of hill districts.
Of the 65 tenders conducted so far, ten were for Chandel, 11 for Churachandpur, 16 for Senapati, 11 for Tamenglong and 17 for Ukhrul.
Responding to Bijoy Koijam and K Meghachandra, Ibobi stated that the MOBC Department took up four schemes under EDP and five other schemes under SDP during 2009-10 .
Under EDP schemes, Rs 357.9932 lakhs were sanctioned for minorities and Rs 252.9533 lakhs for OBCs.
Under SDP schemes, Rs 82.988 lakhs and Rs 11.92 lakhs were sanctioned for minorities and OBCs respectively, the Chief Minister informed the House.
