Anglo-Kuki War remembered at CCpur

The 104th anniversary of Anglo-Kuki War and the first holiday of Anglo-Kuki War (1917-19), which was a war against colonialism, were observed Sunday at Sadbhavna Mandap, Tuibong in Churachandpur.
The anniversary event also coincided with closing ceremony of 5th Lompi Golseh, 2021.Acknowledging contributions of the Kuki warriors, Manipur government declared October 17, the day Anglo-Kuki war started, as restricted holiday last year as a token of remembrance of the Anglo-Kuki warriors and Sunday was the first holiday observed in the state.
DGP LM Khaute was chief guest of the event while DIG Range-II Mangkhogin Haokip and MCS officer Thangboi Gangte were guests of honour.
Recalling events during the Kuki Uprising, associate professor Dr Jangkhomang of Manipur University said it was a well organised war against colonialism and Kuki forefathers fought collectively against the British colonisers.
Quoting the British scholars, LM Khaute said the Kukis are good in strategy, sharp shooters, bold and very tactical.
He also said that plans are afoot to set up a historical park in the state for which a committee has been formed and deliberations are underway.
He said it is necessary to remember contributions of the forefathers by the younger generation.
