National Consultative / Review meeting held

A National Consultation cum Review Meeting on 'Mahseer Network Project' was jointly organised by ICAR-Directorate of Coldwater Fisheries Research (DCFR), Bhimtal and Department of Zoology, Manipur University at the court hall of the varsity on Wednesday.
The inaugural function was held with MU Vice Chancellor Prof N Lokendra Singh as chief guest, while Prof W Vishwanath and Prof R Varatharajan were present as guests of honour.
Zoology Department's Dr Rameshori Yumnam welcomed the gathering and ICAR- DCFR Dr Debajit Sarma presented the introductory remark, while ICAR-DCFR director Dr Pramod Kumar Pandey delivered the presidential address.
In his speech, Prof Lokendra informed that the north-eastern region is one of the many biodiversity hotspots of India.
MU's Department of Life Sciences has identified and researched on the varied flora and fauna of the state for over three decades, which have been published in many international journals.
He then said that the state government and the different fisheries associations have been working hard to preserve the indigenous fish species of the state and as such opined that the National Consultative cum Review Meeting would prove to be highly beneficial in this regard.
As part of the programme, leaflets regarding the topic of the meeting were also released.
The programme ended with vote of thanks by Zoology Department Dr Ksh Birla Singh.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also inked between Registrar of Manipur University Prof W Chandbabu Singh and ICAR-DCFR, Bhimtal director Dr Pramod , Kumar Pandey in the presence VC Prof N Lokendra Singh for research collaboration and academic exchange especially in the field of fisheries.
