Imphal, December 02 2022:
While maintaining that the state will develop when farmers are economically developed, United Committee Manipur (UCM) president Joychandra Konthoujam has strongly called for providing benefits of agricultural schemes to genuine farmers only and not to namesake and fake farmers.
Joychandra expressed his views related to selection of genuine food producers while speaking in a day-long farmers' training programme organised by UCM in coordination with the agriculture department and horticulture department at Kakching Keithel Mandop on Friday.
The programme was a part of UCM's continuing campaign to make the state self-sufficient in food.
During the programme, the UCM president pointed out that the state would become self-sufficient in food production when farmers produce their products abundantly and Manipur will be strengthened when it does not rely on others for food.
Economic wellbeing of the farmers is very much required in developing Manipur as 75 percent of the state's population are farmers, he said and stressed the need for giving special emphasis on farmers.
He then reiterated his suggestion for providing benefits of agricultural schemes to genuine farmers only.
The programme was also attended by Kakching Municipal Council ex-chairperson N Inakhunbi Devi, YWU, Kakching president M Birchandra Singh and UCM, Kakching unit chairman N Punima Singh.
