Imphal, July 31 2020:
The Thoubal Kendra COVID-19 Aid has urged the State Government to conduct testing of at least 400 to 500 persons in a day for the district by using Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) .
The volunteers, in a release, further said the present staff strength of only 26 for sample collection for all the hotspots in Thoubal district is not enough.
Stating that the only way to prevent community transmission is by rapid contact tracing, large scale testing and isolation, the volunteers have also appealed to the Government to provide special attention to Thoubal district as the cases in the district surge.
Around 434 suspected persons were listed for testing using RAT kits yesterday, however only about 100 people were tested as they ran out of testing kits.
RT PCR testing for the remaining persons have been started but it is not satisfactory as waiting for results for two to three days in the situation that Thoubal is facing does not make sense.
Many lives will be lost while waiting for the results, it added.
