Imphal, November 23 2011:
In other cities of the country, electronic signals have replaced the hand signs of the Traffic police to ensure smooth flow of vehicular and pedestrian movement on the roads.
However, despite installation of electronic traffic signals on some roads of Imphal city, some people have the tendency of forcing their way even through one-way traffic if the Traffic police are not around, thus leading to needless clashes and road mishaps.
Talking to Hueiyen Lanpao, a senior officer of the Traffic Police pointed out that for the convenience of the public, the Traffic Police have demarcated one-way traffic rules especially in congested areas like Khwairamband Bazar.

Such instances sometime lead to confrontation between the Traffic police and the traffic rule violators.
Today also a similar confrontation broke out at Kasturi Bridge crossing when a lady defied the one-way traffic rule, the Traffic police officer disclosed, and added that the lady in question was taken to the Traffic Police Station and later released after necessary talks and advices.
A young Traffic Policeman has observed that with exception of emergency services, the public should give up the habit of violating one-way traffic rules.
After all, these one-way traffic rules have been imposed for the conveniences of the people in moving on the roads.
He also appealed to the people for co-operation in the endeavor of the Traffic Police.
