NIA probing Abonmai case, justice inevitable: CM

Chief minister N Biren has stated that the murder of Zeliangrong Baudi former president Athuan Abonmai is presently being investigated by National Investigation Agency (NIA) and as such details about the investigation cannot be divulged at the moment.
He also expressed firm belief that justice will be delivered in Abonmai's case.
Addressing a gathering at the 1st death anniversary of Athuan Abonmai held at Grace Colony, Langol Tarung by the JAC formed in connection with the murder on Thursday, CM N Biren made a clarion call to all communities for peaceful co-existence, cooperation and unity, while adding that Manipur's beauty is in its diversity.
Describing late Abonmai as a vocal leader who believed in the unity of Manipur and wel -fare of the Zeliangrong people, he mentioned that Abonmai was like family to him.
The government will not tolerate any violent action for creating fear amongst the masses and threatening of the public by any community-based armed group.
If the people reach their limit of tolerance, then the results will not be good for such groups, the CM remarked.
With regard to the construction of a memorial park in Abonmai's name, N Biren said that the proposed memorial site comes under reserved forest area, hence, there is some delay, but the government will do the needful and clear the paperwork within three months so that construction of the memorial could begin.
He also shared the grief and sorrow of Abonmai's family, the people and also expressed gratitude to the JAC for looking after and supporting the bereaved family during their time of sorrow.
Quoting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the chief minister said, "This is not the time for war," and further exhorted everyone to shun violence.
"Violence and infightings amongst us have never brought development in our society," the CM observed, while reminding the people of past infightings among different communities.
He further exhorted all for respecting each other and co-existing as one big family.
On the other hand, Hill Areas Committee (HAC) chairman Dinganglung Gangmei alias Dipu said that taking the path of violence and hate because of differences in views or opinions will not bring progress to our society and nation.
In a mature democracy like India, where the concept of unity in diversity exists, there is no place for politics of hate and violence, he said.
Dipu further sought cooperation and support of the people to the state government in honour of Athuan Abonmai.
"Let us co-exist with communal harmony without disturbing the identity of other communities," he said.
The HAC chairman also condemned every form of violence and added that no one has the right to take the law into their own hands.
The observance was also attended by CAF&PD minister L Susindro Meitei and leaders of civil society organisations, among others.
Earlier, the chief minister led in offering floral tribute to the photo of Athuan Abonmai.
