There are some big issues for the tribal people.
Some would claim that the issues are meant only to take political mileage, he stated, while adding that Manipur Hill Areas Autonomous District Council Bill 2021 is one of the most important issues for the tribal people.
Pointing out that he has been the MLA of Tengnoupal for three terms because of people's support, Korungthang pledged to work relentlessly for addressing grievances of the people.
There is a big difference in area coverage between the 40 assembly constituencies in the valley areas and 20 ACs in the hills.
Such logistics problems have been slowing developmental activities in hill areas when compared to the plains.
Subsequently, hill people often get angry at their MLAs under a notion that they do not work like the MLAs of the valley, he added.
Refuting the charges from certain quarters that hill MLAs misappropriate funds meant for the development of the hill areas, he explained by citing an example that as the area coverage of Kakching AC which is the neighbouring constituency of Tengoupal is different, there will be difference in development in terms of roads and.
other infrastructure.
Taking this into consideration and after discussing the Article 371 (A) of the Indian Constitution, Hill Areas Committee Manipur tabled Manipur Hill Areas Autonomous District Council Bill 2021 so as to give more power to the ADCs and to make separate budget for development activities of the hills.
It will help in bringing equal development between the hill and the valley and not disintegration of Manipur, he said.
Korungthang appealed to all the leaders to discuss thoroughly and work together for the development of the state.
