Imphal, June 18 2022:
While denouncing the attempt made by some groups to delete Any Kuki Tribe (AKT) from the Recognised Scheduled Tribe List of Manipur, Kuki Tribe Council (KTC) has demanded the groups concerned to withdraw the step immediately.
On Saturday, a meeting of KTC was organised at Kuki Community hall in Langol Phaipijang, wherein the move to scrap AKT from the Recognised Scheduled Tribe List of Manipur was strongly condemned.
Addressing media persons after the meeting, KTC chairman Ngamlan Doungel informed that AKT includes 8 tribes and 32 sub-clans and is also included in the Scheduled Tribe List of India.
Thus, he strongly condemned the move to have AKT remove from the Scheduled Tribe (ST) List.
Maintaining that AKT has not acted against any other tribes enlisted in the ST List, Ngamlan expressed concern over the attempt being made to benefit some groups and as such, urged against the same.
Furthermore, no other community or section has the authority to remove any tribes particularly AKT from the ST list which has been recognised under the Constitution, and also without the consultation of the tribes in AKT.
Stating that the move is an attempt to create discord among the different communities, the chairman expressed firm belief that the government will take the appropriate action to maintain peace and harmony amongst the communities.
